Just took the ascpi exam last friday (Aug 25) and passed. I thank God for guiding me and giving me strength and wisdom. I am so thankful for this site ( wordosology) for providing high yield notes. This help me remember and understand bb, coagulation, and micro.

    Godbless and more power…

    Ingkyawen

  2. wordsology says:

Thanks for the feedback. Do you have a recollection of any of the blood bank questions you encountered on the exam?

  3. Sue says:

    Have you passed it since?

  4. Lorie Fermin-Agtang says:

I am very thankful to you, all the strategies you shared from this website helped me a lot. I took my ASCPi last September 2 and passed the exam. I was very nervous before I took the exam. Since 2010, I am not practicing the profession due to I need to fulfill my role as a mother and just moved here in USA couple of years. Thank you, thank you so much and above all thank you so much to God for guiding me and answering my prayers.

    God bless you each day.

    • wordsology says:

Congratulations on passing and on motherhood!

      • Alemayehu says:

Hi wordsology, thank you very much for your professional support. my question is do you know /have you take AMT exam?? are labce, success, bottom line, cuila… and other material support for the exam?? or what materials I must read o pass AMT (america medical technologist ) exam ? thank you again

    • Igbokwe Christopher says:

I thank God for all my co-professional that pass. am preparing to take mine, just new to ASCP and will appreciate any help and advice from anyone. thank.

  5. Leslie says:

hey.. I took the MLS test in march.. failed it by less than 20 points.. I was tore up..My test was over 35 or better percent Parasitology..and I did not think I needed to study that much for that subject!
I concentrated on the core subjects.. but I was floored when I saw my questions,, and this was early on In the test..
I am dreading retaking it now.. I do have the Polaskiny cards.. and just discovered this website..
Im in NC.. and I have to pass to keep my raise, I graduated in 2016 with a degree in Cell Biology, I have been an MLT since 2007.
I am going to start studying your charts.. etc…any other suggestions?
    thanks
    Leslie

  6. Andrea says:

Has anyone used the practice exams from ASCP? If so do you think they were helpful?

    • Chance Maxine says:

I have used them but don’t think it’s enough practice. Know everything from this site, ASCP boc book and do as many case studies as possible.

      • Andrea says:

Thanks! I will be taking my exam for the 3rd time in December. I have read bottom line approach, memorized all the charts from this website, I do 50-100 practice questions from Labce and will start reading ASCP Boc book on Monday. If I don’t pass this time I don’t know what else I can do!

    • Marcela says:

What do you think of bottom line approach? do you think it is helpful debating still on if I should buy it as extra studying tool?

    • NAWAL NOUR says:

      No it’s worthless

  7. Godswill Azuka Davidson says:

    Hey Andrea,
i think you are good to go if you are doing well on Labce and you already studied the high-yield notes here. I also passed my ASCP not that long ago but if I knew better I would have paid more attention to the high yield notes here. Best of lucks

  8. Tom says:

First I would like to thank God . Also I have no words to say thank you for Mr. Sahail and your website as well. I had few attempts on another study resources without success passing the exam . Once I found out about Wordsology website , I did pass the exam without no issues . The Micro charts saved my life. I will post some recalls soon. Thanks again Mr. Sahial and God bless you.

  9. Igbokwe Christopher says:

    ok.

  10. Jen says:

I am currently using free quiz game. What score is good enough to say if I’m ready to take the ascpi exam?thank youuu

    • Godswill Azuka Davidson says:

      Hi Jen,
The Labce free quiz game is good but its a bit superficial compared to the core Labce with the subscription. I also did the free quiz game and still do it once in a while just to play around although I have already passed the ASCP exams. The resourcefulness of the High yield notes cannot be overemphasized. I don’t mince words by saying I could not have made it if not for this site. If you are scoring up to 600 at least in the Labce, then you are good to go. Best of lucks

  11. Nina says:

I didn’t pass the exam. I studied really hard, Read the Bottom line book, did 50-100 questions and studied the high yield notes and memorized everything. I then realized that the questions were coming from the BOC Book. I didn’t even look at the book at all because people advised me not to. Make sure you don’t make the same mistake I did. The BOC Study guide questions guide you on how the ASCP words each question. I saw a lot of similar questions, after the fact. I don’t know if I just got a really hard exam, or what happened? It was tough! Study hard but don’t give up!!!

    • wordsology says:

I am sorry to hear. Some folks find the BOC book useful while many others don’t. Good advice for everyone on studying hard and not giving up!

      • AMITA FRANKMANN says:

I’m relying on this site and BOC

      • Godswill Azuka says:

Well I find the BOC very resourceful also the Labce. I personally had some questions from BOC while I wrote my ASCP exams… it wount hurt to take say a peep at it

    • Godswill Azuka Davidson says:

So sorry to hear this Nina and you are right about the BOC Book as some of my questions where exactly from the BOC book. There was this guy who posted some pages and questions from BOC book on recalls of this site and l looked into it. You wouldn’t believe that those questions also popped up. Nothwithstanding, i have this assurance that you will definitely make it next time from the vast experience that you have gathered.
Just as you said “don’t give up”

    • leslie says:

dont feel bad, I failed mine several months back.. I had a lot of paraite questions.. Def., not what I was expecting..

  12. Desperate lady says:

Hi. I first wanted to say I think it’s so kind of you to start this site. I graduated an MLS program 3 years ago. I haven’t passed my exam after a couple of tries. I didn’t learn the material properly while I was in school bc of circumstances I was going through at the time. I just wondered if you had any suggestions on what I should do. I can’t get a job without this certification. Thank you!

    • wordsology says:

I would suggest going through the website and taking a look at the high yield notes and exam advice. My single most important piece of advice would be to try to do 100 questions every day (or as many as you can) from labce and the Harr book in order to attack your weak areas. You will get many/most of these questions wrong but this will allow you to move out of your comfort zone and REALLY learn new things.

  13. Fidelis says:

Hi, I will be taking the NY State CLS exam in 2 weeks but I feel like I dont remember anything. I skim through the success book but the information is overwhelming and make me nervous. At this rate, I think I will fail this exam. What should I do?

    • wordsology says:

At this point you should really relax. Have you studied properly? If you have, you have no need to be nervous. If not, then just have confidence in knowing that if you don’t pass, you know what you need to do for next time.

      • Fidelis Y Tan says:

Thank you! I took my exam on Tuesday and I believe I passed it. I saw “PASS” but then I was too excited and I didn’t double check and closed it >< . Now I am afraid that I might of see "FAIL". But my exam is 80% recalls from here. Along with that, I used polansky card, bottom line of approach, BOC and success book to help me understand the concept. Thank you very much for the site! It helped me alottt!!!

      • wordsology says:

This is a common fear arising after the exam. I suppose it’s because the results are “PASS” or “FAIL” without a great deal of preamble or elaboration or paper evidence. When I took the exam, I recognized that the result may be changed by a malicious hacker and I would have no proof to the contrary. It’s difficult to “PASS” written on a computer monitor after spending so much time and money on preparation. But you passed. And I’m certain you will receive a paper letter elaborating further in a few weeks.

      • Fidelis Y Tan says:

I did passed! Thank you once again very much! This site is the best!!

  14. Shinshin says:

Hi do u advice cjanging answers at the end of the exam? Or should i just choose a definite answer ryt away number per number and never go back? Pplllssss help so nervous that i cannot sleep at nyt bcos of this exam prep. I only have 2 weeks to prepare and ill be taking it on monday 😭😭😭

    • wordsology says:

It’s possible you learn something new by the end of the exam. It’s generally advised not to do so, though.

    • Godswill Azuka Davidson says:

      Shinshin,
Here’s what i did during my own exams, i took my time (1-2mins max) to make a good attempt in each question if i think i know it or forgot the answers but there are these questions that i didn’t even stand a chance so i just tagged them for a recheck at the end before submitting. The ASCP is also scored based on the level of difficulty you are able to scale through. I will recommend you spend more time with the Recalls now and do justice to them if possible all of them since you are already not sleeping well you can spend the night with it lols. It happened to all of us even when you finally pass the exams it will take a while to adjust. You should be a lord over the Sohali chats and high yield notes by now that you can reproduce all of it in a timely manner. Please your Recalls again and again.
Best of luck Shinshin, i will see you on the other side you’re good to go.

  15. Syd says:

Hi! I just took the ASCP international mls exam, my preliminary result said “pass”. I have to wait for my verified and final result but is there any chance that preliminary result could be changed?

    • Godswill Azuka Davidson says:

      Syd,
I really doubt it can change as I have never heard of such. When i saw a “pass” in my preliminary result i was almost pretty sure there was a mix-up somewhere cause i thought i failed until i saw that i made 846. You’ve already made it dear and this exam is behind you now.
      Congrats

      • Ify says:

I just took mine yesterday aswell .. I was so sure i failed for the 3rd time. I saw the “pass”. I’m so happy but also very nervous while waiting for the email verification. Thanks Godswill your words encouraged me. I’m sure i passed.

      • wordsology says:

        Congratulations and be happy!

  16. Andrea says:

I have been taking LabCE MLS Computer Adaptive exams once a week for the last 3 months and have been scoring between 49%-51% with a difficulty level between 3.7-4.5. I also try to do 50 questions everyday either between selected subjects, random, most missed ect. What else can I do to get this score higher. What do you recommend for a difficulty level to be in order to pass? I will be taking me exam in December. I have memorized every single table on this website, read Bottom Line Approach, I have done all the questions in BOC. I have started reading through the exam recalls also. I feel like I have done everything I can but I am not seeing the results.

    • karrie says:

did you pass? I’m taking my exam next weekend, but like you I’m only scoring 50-54% with a 4.3-5.5 difficulty. I’m so nervous!

  17. Lillete says:

Hi. I am scheduled to take my exam on the 3rd. Am going through Harr and Polansky quick review cards and Bottom line Approach. I actually subscribed with Ace ASCP but am wondering if I should still subscribe with LabCe. I still have the Ciulla book to go through as well and the recalls. Any thoughts?
Where can I find the recall questions in this site? Thanks for all your kind support.

  18. Thank you so much for this info! This is by far some of the best advice I have ever seen on the subject of testing for the MLS certification. I truly appreciate all the work and diligence you have put in. I have read every page and almost every comment.
My question: is this info relevant to the AMT exam as well? I would imagine it is and regardless find it to be a valuable asset. I am taking the AMT MT exam in a few months. Do you know the parameters for passing the AMT exam? Is it similar to the ASCP passing guidelines? Will having an AMT certification make me less of a candidate for jobs? I would have preferred ASCP but didn’t quite work out that way.
I have been studying a little bit every day and will continue to do so. I have a BS in biology and six years a lab tech in an infectious disease testing lab but need to get my MT certification to move to a professional level. I figure if I study hard for three to four months I will have a good chance of passing first try. Is that too much time to prepare?
I love medical lab work and want to make it my career. Passing this exam is everything to me. Any and all advice is very helpful!

    Thank you

I am very thankful to you Sohail for establishing this site and for all the other fellow examinees. I passed my examination yesterday, November 11, and I’m currently waiting for the email confirmation and score. The recommended books are very helpful, especially Harr and Polansky.

For those who are planning to take the exam in the future, be sure to read some recommended books by Sohail. Anyways, thank you once again Sohail for this amazing website! And for future takers, God bless and good luck! 😀

Hello Everyone first i want to congratulate those who have passed the Ascp exam! and best of luck to those who are going to take the exam. I passed my ASCPi exam in July 2017 and am in the process of Visa Screening with CGFNS. They are giving me a very hard time by not accepting my transcript and the reason CGFNS is giving me is that I am NOT a Medical Technologist. I know it’s a totally different question I am asking here but If someone knows anything about how to deal with CGFNS please reply me especially Sohail.

  21. Tarak says:

    Hello Sohail
I felt so happy when I found out about your website. I have started preparing for ASCP exam also. By the way I am a Medical Lab Technologiest in Canada and working as Medical Technologist in a Hospital since 2006 as full time employee.
I am having issues during my evaluation process for ASCP. I would really really appreciate if you could please send me a message and if you can please give me some guidance .
I am sure with your wonderful Website and notes I can pass MLS exam.

  22. Joyful joy says:

Hello Tarak,, I’m in Canada and preparing for the CSMLS exams. Can you please give me some tips that would enable me ace the exams?

  23. Nav says:

    Hi everyone
i just took my ASCPi exam today and i passed!! i almost can’t believe it because i was giving up by the end of my exam! but i trusted my memory and i went for the first answer that my brain told me was..lol..Try going for the first answer that pops up in your mind guys. Trust your memory. i reviewed HARR, ciula (mainly BB, understanding ANA although i didn’t have even one question on it, but mainly reviewing my weak topics) and polansky flash cards. Sohail’s notes are gold! they helped a lot!! Thank you Sohail and thank you for the passing strategy. I advise anyone taking the exam to start from the tips Sohail provided because it kinda takes off the burden on how to start prepping for the exam, which i’m sure all of us had. i had 2-3 questions from exam recall (i only browsed a few).
I did labCe exams many times in the middle of my review and i did ASCP BOC questions in labCE 6-7 times in the end.
Good luck to everyone taking the exam. You all have a beautiful gift, YOUR BRAIN, trust it! 🙂

To Saudi, I think you need to do course by course and certificate evaluation with WES and see what is going to happen. If any institution ask for your transcript, then as WES to send your transcript to them. I think you should be fine with WES evaluation.

I am taking the MLS ASCP exam in 4 months. I have been taking lab ce exams and studying polansky review cards. I have been scoring an average of 54% on the adaptive testing and low 70’s on the regular exams. Is this high enough to pass the exam?

I would like to see some of the scores people have gotten in labce vs how they scored on the actual exam.

    HELLO WORDSOLOGY,
Hey Soheil, I AM NEW HERE.My question: is this info relevant to the AMT exam as well? I am taking the AMT MT exam in a 2-3 months. Do you know the parameters for passing the AMT exam? Is it similar to the ASCP passing guidelines? Will having an AMT certification make me less of a candidate for jobs? I would have preferred ASCP but I am not qualify for any route since I have finished my master degree in 2009 but I like medical lab work and want to make my career so.
can anybody give me advise that is that site helpful for me for AMT certification?

  30. Wittyboy says:

This site really helped me and it is very imperative that I announce my success here. I took my MLS(ASCPi) yesterday and the preliminary result was “PASS”. I really appreciate you Sohail-the author of this site and every that has contributed in one way or the other. The passing strategy really helped me and the materials recommended were good resources for me. Thanks to you all.
To those that are preparing or planning to take the exam, you can do it. Follow the strategy, prepare as much as you can and trust God for the best.

    • PaulD says:

Not sure if you’ve already taken the exam at this point but I used Wordsology’s advice with studying for both AMT & ASCP. I took the AMT exam last week and passed. I used Bottom Line Appraoch, Polansky note cards, LabCE & online practice exams offered on AMT. I am also MLT ASCP certified and feel like that exam was more difficult than the MT AMT. The only difference is it’s a test of endurance with 230 (AMT) questions versus only 100 (ASCP). Now I am taking MLS ASCP exam in two weeks and have continued with the same study resources but supplemented the online AMT practice exams with aceascp and practice exams offered through ascp. Hopefully these sources will provide that extra edge. Best of studies to you!

      • Jade says:

Hi! I am also planning to take the AMT exam in the next few months and wondering how are the questions like and how did you study? Thanks.

  33. Toni says:

my name is Rabia. My exam is on 9th march.I have a BOC book and did chemistry, hematology, microbiology and blood bank. But i felt like I do not remember anything. For now I’m going over the topics at the website and the labce test and some flash cards on internet. Do you think its enough to pass the test? and I read that BOC book is not recommended. One more question please, If I just go through the topics that have the 25% of the whole exam like, chemistry, hematology, micro and blood bank would be enough to pass the exam?
    please, help.
    thanks.

I have a Bachelors in Biology and I got the LabCE practice exams and I have to guess on 95% of the questions! I hope this site will help me actually learn what I need to, a lot of forums post me to your site! One question though that no one has answered: Where do I actually take the exam? At a local college / testing center?

Itook my MLT 5 years ago and passed with flying colors. Now I’m trying to take my MLS exam, I took it twice and failed. First time I scored a 384 and knew I failed before I saw the results. This time which was today I failed again and was so surprised because my questions got so much easier at the end and I was confindent in a lot of my answers. I keep thinking there was something wrong with the exam but it’s doubtful. Anyways I studied Labce, aceascp, passascp, the boc book, harr, and the notes on here. I don’t really know what to do now. Any suggestions would be helpful?

Sohail words cannot express the immense gratitude I have for this lovely website you have put together for future lab technicians/technologists alike. Yesterday I passed my MLS ASCP. Those reading my post and questioning the process/themselves, please don’t. Following the prescribed study regimen will guarantee you a PASS.

Background on me is I finished my MLT ASCP back in 2011 and had been out of the lab since 2014 working in more research administrative roles. I definitely needed a thorough review so I began my studying at the beginning of January of this year. The study materials I used were: LabCE where I took around three tests a week (usually in review mode) and averaged 55-59% on computer adaptive mode, Bottom Line Approach where I read through it three times and used it to reference when I didn’t understand a LabCE question, Polanski note cards which make much more sense after reading through bottom line approach, and Wordsology’s high yield notes and charts where micro & BB ones were extremely useful. I also purchased the green BOC book, Harr’s review book, and the ASCP recommended online practice exams but did not find much use of them (personal opinion and I can see how some learning styles benefit from them). Finally, whenever I did not understand a specific test or had never even heard of a particular organism/enzyme/etc I turned to our good old friend Google to gain a better understanding and honestly aided in me remembering it the next time I seen it.

This long winded post is intended to encourage those of you studying and facing self doubt as I was literally in your shoes two days ago. Try to avoid holding too much weight on posts about people saying they failed even after following what was laid out on this website as it somewhat discouraged me at times and stay focused on the goal of studying and passing. Best of luck to you all and once again thank you so much Sohail for your continued contributions to the CLS community!
